It is not just about better-feeling water
Hard-water scale can affect faucets, fixtures, dishwashers, washing machines, water heaters, tankless equipment, and other water-using equipment. San Antonio has seriously hard water; we do not need a questionable national ranking to make the point.
No softener loop? That does not automatically mean no softener.
An existing loop makes installation easier, but Smith & Sons can retrofit systems where a loop does not already exist. Piping, drain routing, electrical, bypass valves, shutoffs, placement, and exterior protection can all be evaluated.
Softener-only or whole-home treatment
We install Charger-brand softeners and can offer a combination treatment option with softening plus carbon-block treatment. The right setup depends on what the homeowner wants to improve and how the home is arranged.
What a good install looks like
Neat piping, proper bypass arrangement, appropriate shutoffs, proper drain routing, equipment protection, correct programming, hardness testing when appropriate, a customer walkthrough, and cleanup. No one detail is the magic trick—the finished system should look like somebody gave a shit about all of it.
Repair or replace?
We can service existing softeners when repair is practical and parts are available. For older out-of-warranty systems, replacement may make more sense. Some proprietary systems limit parts availability for independent service companies, and we will tell you when that makes repair impractical.
