WET FLOOR. MOVING METER. RUNNING-WATER SOUND. LET’S FIND THE LEAK FIRST.

The first step is diagnosis—not demolition.

Common signs of a slab leak

Wet floor or unexplained moisture, a moving meter with fixtures off, unexplained water-bill increases, running-water sounds, low pressure, and occasionally a warm area on the floor can all justify further diagnosis. Water follows the path of least resistance, so visible moisture is not always directly above the failure.

How we locate it

Diagnosis can include pressure testing, system isolation, and electronic leak-detection equipment. We do not rely on thermal imaging as a standard part of this service because we generally do not need it for the leaks we handle.

Our repair philosophy: reroute when practical

Smith & Sons does not normally repair pressurized water-line slab leaks by cutting directly through the slab. When practical, we prefer rerouting through a more serviceable path. That may require drywall access, but it keeps our normal repair approach out of the finished slab.

What can contribute to slab-leak problems?

Conditions we see associated with slab-leak issues include hard-water/mineral buildup, high water pressure, and damage to copper piping installed through or beneath the slab. We may evaluate pressure and the PRV when symptoms point that direction.

What about water damage?

Sometimes the plumbing repair is only one part of the problem. If separate water-damage remediation is needed, Smith & Sons can recommend remediation companies we work with when appropriate. We do not represent ourselves as the remediation contractor.
